Facial Acupuncture

An acupuncture facial is a holistic acupuncture treatment designed to improve overall health while tackling specific skin issues that come with aging. A patient will typically seek facial acupuncture treatment to address fine lines and wrinkles, sagging, dark circles under the eyes and sallow complexion. Chinese medicine treats the systemic reasons for these skin changes in addition to the topical symptom itself.

Typically a treatment will include a full medical history during the intake as well as a facial analysis. The treatment will then seek to balance overall health and thus rejuvenate the skin. In Chinese medicine the effects of aging appear after 35, or when someone has entered their 5th, 7 year cycle of life. In women this often manifests with digestive issues and hormonal changes. Increases in cortisol from stress and aging cause an increase in oil production and acne in addition to causing sleep disturbances. At the same time, the digestive energies that are responsible for the production and movement of qi throughout the body can become taxed more easily. By calming and de-stressing the body, the treatments can reduce cortisol and improve digestion, movement of qi and improve sleep.

In addition to using body acupuncture to treat holistically, facial acupuncture will address fine line and wrinkles at the source by using very small needles to thread the lines. This brings both qi and xue (blood) to the area, plus it causes a micro-irritation under the skin that helps reduce wrinkles.

Beth Hooper also uses the She Essential Beauty product line in her facial acupuncture treatments. Each treatment comes with an exfoliating and moisturizing facial to rid the skin of dead skin cells and boost the yin, the substance we lose as we age that causes the appearance of wrinkles. The toner is used to cleans the skin and relax the mind. This is followed by insertion of both body and facial needles that are inserted for approximately 20 minutes. Once the needles are removed, a nourishing mask is made from the washing grains and facial serum. The She Essential Beauty washing grains exfoliate and astringe the skin, while the facial serum drains clogged pores and contains a mix of 8 essential oils and Chinese pearl designed to combat free radicals and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. After another 10 minutes, the mask is removed and the skin is massaged with the She Essential Beauty facial serum, leaving the skin with a healthy, beautiful glow.

Facial acupuncture treatments typically require 10 sessions for optimal results, with follow-up treatments recommended monthly for maintenance.
